The ASNT_PRBS43 can be used for test applications, design verification, and R&D environments. The 27-1 pseudo random bit sequence (PRBS) generator operates from 4Gbps to 40Gbps. It includes a single-ended full-rate clock output. The differential Sync Output’s divide ratio is a user defined 2-to-512 controlled through the software interface via USB. Either a single-ended or differential full-rate clock can be used, or a single-ended or differential divided-by-16 clock reference can be used for the onboard 11.0GHz to 14.4GHz VCO. The GUI operates in Windows XP or newer. An input frequency of 10GHz corresponds to a 20Gbps PRBS data output. It should be noted that all RF connections should be used with a DC block.


The front panel consists of 3 types of outputs. First is the Data output, which provides a differential PRBS data output. Second is the Sync output, which provides a differential divided clock. Third is the Clock output, which provides a single-ended full-rate clock. All connectors are SMA female. Use DC blocks on all outputs. Differential outputs may be operated single-ended or differential. AC coupling with 50Ω termination of any unused outputs is recommended.


The back panel consists of 4 inputs, a Reference Clock input, a Clock input, a USB input, and an AC power input. The AC power input can be 110VAC or 220VAC. A USB-B male cable is needed to interface the ASNT_PRBS43 to a computer’s USB port. There are two operating modes for this device, PLL mode or full-rate clock mode. For PLL mode, a 687.5MHz to 900MHz reference clock is needed to operate the VCO from 11GHz to 14.4GHz. This input can be operated single-ended or differentially. It is advised to AC couple to 50Ω, and terminate the unused input if only a single-ended input is used. Use DC blocks for both differential clock inputs. For the full-rate clock mode, either a single-ended or differential clock may be used.
